Our Story

Celebrating Gardens, Community, and the Beauty of Blackwood Valley & Southern Forests

Who We Are

The Blackwood Country Gardens Inc. trades as The Festival of Country Gardens.

Festival of Country Gardens is a vibrant, community-driven organisation dedicated to sharing the love of gardening across the Blackwood Valley and Southern Forest regions of Western Australia. Established to foster connection and inspiration among garden enthusiasts, we invite visitors from across the country to experience the rich tapestry of gardens that flourish in our unique corner of the world.

Our Purpose

Our mission is to bring together garden lovers, support local charities and community groups, and showcase a diverse range of private gardens. Through our festivals, we open the gates to some of the region’s most inspiring gardens—ranging from charming small plots to expansive rural estates—providing opportunities for learning, enjoyment, and community engagement.

What We Do

  • Host two major festivals each year:
  • Autumn Festival – Two days of garden explorations
  • Spring Festival – Four days celebrating the peak of the gardening season

Encourage gardeners to share their gardens, inspiring and educating visitors of all ages.

Support our gardeners by returning entry proceeds to them and their chosen charities

Foster a welcoming community and invite all to become active members or volunteer

Opening Your Garden

We’re always seeking passionate gardeners eager to share their unique spaces. Opening your garden during our festivals provides inspiration and learning opportunities for visitors, as well as an enriching experience for yourself. It’s also a meaningful way to support causes close to your heart.

Gardens selected for the festival reflect a wide variety of styles, sizes, plant collections, and stories. The selection committee considers design, sustainability, historical value, plant diversity, and location to ensure a rich and varied festival program.

Once selected, our committee will guide you through the simple, supportive process of preparing your garden for visitors. We’ll answer your questions, offer guidance, to make you feel confident and prepared.
